Babyspeck

Sie behielten nun also Recht.

Everyday Favourite Part III – Finishin Spray

First of all, my lovely ones out there. I am so sorry for being absent for such a long time. I really had so much struggles in my personal life lately, which I first had to figure out, before I could continue with the things I love – beauty and makeup. But now I am back on track and I promise you, there won’t be such a long period where I’m keeping quiet again. 🙂

So for todays article I want to continue with me Favourite series and I believe we’ve reached part 3 – and I want to dedicate it to one of the most important things, if you’re trying to wear a full face of makeup throughout a whole day: A good finishing! I’ve tested quiet a few, from cheeper ones to high end ones and there are quiet a few good ones and some, I wouldn’t recommend, because I don’t feel like they’re doing anything at all for your skin or your makeup. But there is one, I’m coming back to every time and which works for me so pretty good and that is the MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ – Finishing Mist!

fix+.jpg

What’s so good about the Fix+?

There are many reasons I like the Fix+ as a finishing spray. First of all it’s so versatile. I use it sometimes to spray my face even before applying makeup, if I feel it’s too dry. I wet my beautyblender sometimes with it, so it makes applying makeup easier (btw, you should always wet your beautyblender…nobody’s using them dry :D). I also wet my brushed sometimes before applying some eyeshadows, if I want my shadow to be more covering and have a more intense look. I love doing this especially, when it’s a foiled shadow. And then I use it for what it’s designed to be used – as a finishing spray. Sometimes I spray my face throughout the day a couple of times with this little wonder, just to refresh my face. And if you’re using this for all these reasons, it’s a truly amazing finishing spray and you won’t be disappointed. But if you’re using it as a setting spray, you will hate on it and for a reason.. Because it is NOT a setting spray so therefore it’s designed to disappoint you – if you’re using the product out of purpose… Let me tell you about the difference…

Setting Spray of Finishing Spray?

A fixing/setting spray is designed to lock in your makeup so it won’t move, kinda like a hairspray for your makeup. But be careful… I’ve seen people use actual hairspray to fix their makeup and this may work, yes, but please… your skin deserve way more. So spend some money on real setting sprays if you want to achieve the lock-down of your makeup. It comes in a mist or spray form, is transparent and does not change the color of your makeup. You just spray your face with the cooling mist, and let it naturally dry. Some good Settings sprays are for example the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray.

A Finishing Spray is a little different. It’s supposed to take away the cake of your face. You know what I mean right? When you put on layer after layer after layer of makeup and powder and concealers and all this stuff on your face and it leaves you kinda cakey – meaning you can spot from a mile away that you are actually wearing all these layers. But that’s not what you want! You want your skin to look smooth and soft and fresh. And that’s what a setting spray is for.

So as a recap: setting sprays lock in your makeup and finishing sprays are supposed to make you look fresher and softer and take away the cake!

Some facts:

  • contains 100 ml/3,4 US fl OZ
  • Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, tocopheryl acetate, caffeine, panthenol, arginine, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, PPG-26-buteth-26, fragerance, disodium edta, phenoxyethaol
  • price point: about 22 €/24$
  • where to get: online on the official MAC-Website or sites that sell makeup (Douglas, Sephora etc.), in your local Sephora, Douglas or where ever they retail MAC products

So if you’re looking for a good finishing spray, this is the one I’m recommending you and I literally use it every day! But keep in mind – finishing spray, not fixing spray 😉

♡ Sugarbearhair Hair Vitamins ♡ Recap

In December I told you, that I’m trying out this cute electric blue hair vitamins everyone and their mother was raving about.

And now it’s time to recap everything and ask myself – Is it worth purchasing it?

Disclaimer: this is just my opinion on it and the experience I’ve made with this product. Wheter it’s worked for me or not (you’ll find out, if you keep on reading) – that was just my personal thing. You may have gotten other results and thankfully we are all different and unique in our own ways and our bodies work different. So what works for me, may not work for you and vice versa. So no harsh feelings here 😉

What did I notice after taking Sugarbearhair Vitamins?

Well, I did notice a difference and I noticed it after I guess two weeks. My hair did look shinier and the most noticeable difference was, that I had so much less hair loss. I normally am loosing so much hair, that it’s a wonder I still have some on my head. But after two weeks of taking these vitamins I noticed that I’m losing less hair and they tend to break less – which made me very happy. Before I took the vitamins I cut my hair a bit to get rid off the dead ends. And my hair – normally taking forever to grow even the slightest bit – grew out to the exact same length I had before cutting the ends, which was about 5 cm (about 1.96 inches). For me that was a huge deal, because my hair really takes forever to grow, due to all the damage I’ve done to it. I’ve noticed it as well on my hairline and I had to dye my hair more often, since I’m not a natural brunette 😀

Is it worth puchasing?

So I have to say, I liked that it worked. You can’t expect wonders, that’s for sure. The human body takes time to get to a certain level of vitamins to work – it has to be build up and this takes at least two weeks, until you can notice it. Therefore you can’t expect it to work after two days – it takes some patience to notice a difference. But there is one and so I can’t tell you that these cute bears aren’t working, because they do. And if you like a fun twist to your haircare and do not want the somehow uninviting taste of other hair vitamins this may be a good choice for you. But you have to be aware that you need at least two months worth of sugarbearhair vitamins – and they are about 30 $ (28€) – depends on where you’re living + the shipping. So for me in Germany, I’m paying for one month worth of these gummies 39 € (41 $)… That’s pretty heavy. So it’s worth considering.

Would I purchase them again?

Let me put it this way… They worked – yes! They are cute – yes! They taste good – yes! But they are expensive AF and there are other hair vitamins for half the amount of money which work just as good as these cuties. So I love the concept and I like what it has done to my hair, but for me, it’s a pass – just because of the price. I’d rather take the ugly tasting vitamins out there, which work as good as these. But no hate to them – they are cute and they work. It’s just a personal preference. I recommend them, if you’re willing to spend that amount of money on vitamins, but I wouldn’t purchase them again. At least not for this price point.

Everyday Favourite Part II – Brow Products

It’s weird, how brows became the next big thing in the makeup world, when just a couple of years ago it was enough taming them a bit or tweeze some of your unwanted hairs. But nowadays brows are on fleek – which simply just means they are flawless or on point. The next big thing, mostly thanks to Cara Delevigne, are bold, thick brows.

And there are tons of things to achieve them nowadays – starting with a harmless things like makeup and ending with such things with microblading (a semi-permanent makeup for your eyebrows). I myself prefer the non-hurtful way and keep on filling in my eyebrows and bringing them in shape everyday. Quiet time-consuming – I spent at least 15 minutes a day for my brows, but it’s worth it – for I myself don’t have big, bold brows. And today I’m gonna bring to you my favourite products to do so.

abh.jpg

There’s no surprise here – my favourite brow products are by Anastasia Beverly Hills! She really changed the brow game and I – like many others fell quickly in love with her products. So here you can see what I’m using everyday to get the brows I wasn’t born with: The Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow in Dark Brown (around 30 €), the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brush Duo Synthetic #12 ( around 24 €) and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Ebony (around 29 €).

First of all, you have to make your brows a shape you can work with, so I’m tweezing unwanted little hairs out every now and then. But when that parts done and not necessary I start of with the brow wiz.

This small pencil has two sites each one protected with a cap. 16114273_1190678861015893_7336934608553740391_n.jpg 16003221_1190678887682557_8568212566966773792_n.jpg

The spoolie on this pencil is quiete small, but for my brows ideal, since they are tiny and barely existing. I’m brushing my eyebrow hairs a little up with this one. Then I’m preparing my brows with small strokes upwards from the other end of the brow wiz. The color pay off is not as intense as you think it would be, so you can dare to press down a little, without risking to look like you’ve drawn your eyebrows with a sharpie. The important part is, that you use small strokes and don’t just use it like a pen and drag it left and right across your face.

After that I’m taking my #12 pencil and I’m using the best thing that’s been ever invented – The Dip Brow! Seriously I love this stuff. To be honest, you have to be careful while using it. It can be quiet tricky, because you have to be careful to use just a little bit and don’t go overboard and you have to take care that you’re not applying it patchy. But once you’ve mastered it, it’ll become your best friend.

16194902_1190678894349223_1116185186785210876_nSo opening this little pot you can see a pomade – mine’s looking a little nasty to be honest, because I’ve used it for around 5 months I guess. And still it’s only used up half – so you see, you don’t need a ton of product . The pomade stays on pretty well after applying – you can rub it off, but it’s not like you come across it by accident and you have a huge dark swipe across your face – which happened to me with other products. You have to apply the pomade with an angled brush – I do recommend the one by Anastasia herself, but you can use others as well.

And just so you know I’m not lying about my brows, here’s a before and after pic 😀

Everyday Favourite Part 1 – Perfume

So I thought about bringing you my favourite everyday products in beauty and makeup. And when I say everyday, I really mean everyday. I’m going to introduce to you the products I use on a daily basis – some of them for years and which I love and probably will love for a long time.

I’m starting off this series by the product in my beauty and makeup routine I’ve been using for the longest I believe – I guess it’s in my collection for about 4 years now. I stumbled across this perfume in December 2012 as I was doing my christmas shopping and wanted to use a new perfume. I never spent much money on perfume, and purchased the ones from the drugstore like Bruno Banani and Christina Aguilera. Don’t get me wrong, they are pretty good for drugstore brands, but that’s what they are and you’ll know the difference once you’re using more expensive perfumes. They just stay on longer and are intense and more thoughtful with their scents. Anyhow, so I tested a few ones and somehow reached for the „D&G 3 L’IMPÉRATRICE“ and got hooked on it. Throughout the years I got asked a couple of times what perfume I am using and everyone liked the way it smelled. I used some other perfumes from time to time but I always got back to this one and this is by far my all time favourite! That’s why I’m starting my series with this one.

A little backstory

a5d3aa6feb8cf8d41044ae9fd3757016

from left to right: 1 LE BATELEUR – 6 L’AMOUREUX – 11 LA FORCE –  18 LA LUNE – 10 LA ROUE DE LA FORTUNE – 3 L’IMÉRATRICE

The perfume is part of the D&G Anthology which was a 2009 released collection of limited edition fragrances. The inspiration behind these fragrances were tarot card, therefore although every fragrance has the simple identical glass bottle, all scents come in different colors. Maybe you stumbled across the add campaign back then – where the models (female and male) stripped down their white bath robes to George Michaels „Freedom“. It featured Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova and Claudia Schiffer for the female scents and Noah Mills, Fernando Fernandes and Tyson Ballou for the male scents. Later on the company released two more fragrances named 14 LA TEMPERANCE and 21 LE FOU. The be honest I barely see any of the other scents in stores and never tried them. The only one I keep seeing everywhere is my beloved No° 3 and there’s a reason behind it.

The scent

15826774_1180521955364917_8023620317119591388_n

L’Impératrice means „The Empress“ (dt. Kaiserin) and therefore the official description to this perfume released by D&G itself suits this delicious scent pretty well:

Flamboyant and energetic, for L’Impératrice life is a movie and she is its heroine. All heads turn when she enters a room. Vibrant, magnetic she exudes charisma and force of character.

The top notes of this perfume are fruity and somehow unusual as they include rhubarb, red currant, and kiwi. The rhubarb part is what got me addicted to this perfume – it was the first thing I noticed about it and the scent of if stuck so long with me,I fell in love with it.

Then the heart notes strikes you with fresh watermelon and pink cyclamen.

To round it up the base notes are some musky notes, sandalwood and grapefruit wood.

The combination makes it so fresh, light and clean. It smells kinda sexy and feminine yet sweet and innocent. A little goes a long way with this one. I find it very pleasing and it stays on very nicely.

Where can I get it?

Of course online or in every store that sells perfume (not only the drugstore perfume of course). You can grab 3.3 oz/ 100 ml for 78 € or you get a grip of the 1,6 oz/ 50 ml bottle for 55 €. Depends on where you’re purchasing it from, you can get it a bit cheaper, but be careful when purchasing it for a super cheap price – this might be a scam and not the original perfume!

I highly recommend to try it out and fall in love with it – like I did!

♡ Sugarbearhair Hair Vitamins ♡

Ever heard of sugarbearhair?

15535489_103674400135618_1958918168340594688_n

(Picture taken from their official instagram page Sugarbearhair Instagram)

If you’re strolling around the social media and are following some beauty and makeup influencers, I’m pretty sure you have. Even celebrities as Emily Ratajkowski, Vanessa Hudgens and Kylie Jenner are promoting these sweet baby blue hair vitamins, claiming that it makes your hair shinier, stronger, grow faster and all the magical things every girl dreams about.

So to be clear, these are gummy bears, filled with the good stuff to make your hair the best it’s ever been, including zinc, iron, vitamin A, B, C, D and E and biotin? And all you have to do is taking 2 of these sweet gummy bears each day to get wonderful hair? Hardly to believe, since my hair suffered long enough from all my tortures, including dying it back and forth between blonde, red, black and brown and heating it up almost every day to the maximum. But it’s so worth the try!

Where do I get them?

You can order them from their original website (Click here 🙂) or from certain retailers, depending where you live. Since I’m living in Germany I ordered it from a website which provides haircare products, makeup etc. (Hagel Shop). Ordering is easy, as always online. The gummy bear treatment for 30 days retails for 29,99 $. Since I ordered it from the other website I paid 39 € for it, but when ordering it from the original website you still have to pay shipping with comes at least with 10 – 15 $. And you have to wait at least one week till you get it. The german site didn’t charge any shipping fees. And the order arrived within 2 working days.  I recommend providing it from the german retailer if you’re living in Germany or Austria, because it’s less stressful, faster and easier. Paying is as easy as almost every where with paypal and credit card.

What’s in it?

sugarbearhair-inhalt

Each bottle contains 60 gummy bears, which are supposed to last 30 days, since you have to take 2 a day. As you can see it contains all the good stuff for your hair, as mentioned before. But what concerns me is, that they contain so much glucose syrup and sugar. I know it’s supposed to be gummy bears, therefore there has to be sugar, but still it’s so much. And they taste as sweet as the list of ingredients makes you assume, somehow berry like. It’s not a bad taste, actually quiet tasty, but so so sweet, for my taste a little too much. I’ve tried some hair vitamins before and the pills tasted so freaking disgusting, so I do not mind taking these sugar bombs infused with vitamins.

So what’s with the magic? How does it work?

So you’ve seen the label, you’ve read what’s in it, but how does it work?

Did you notice that the hair vitamins in here contain mostly Biotin (5,000 mcg)? You have to know that without enough hydration and nutrients the growth is slowed down. And Biotin is mostly used to stimulate growth because it helps produce glucose and break down proteins into amino acids and your hair itself contains keratin, which is a form of protein. So after taking these your hair is supposed to grow much healthier and faster.

Iron works the same way. Lacking it your hair becomes dull and dry and thins out.

Vitamin A and E helps with your blood circulation and therefore your hair follicles grow faster.

Vitamin C helps your body creating collagene which helps tons with the strength of your hair.

Vitamin B-6 forms cells and brings oxygen to your scalp.

Vitamin B12 helps with your red blood cells which again provide oxygen to your hair follicles.

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B-5) helps delivering keratin to your hair follicles. It also helps to repair hair strands that have been the victim of breakage or shedding.

Folic Acid stimulates cell division which helps with all the growing processes in your body and your hair. (Especially when you’re trying to get pregnant this is a very important one ;))

Iodine makes the hormones, necessary for the growth of healthy hair, teeth and bones

Choline supports the construction of durable cell membranes, and is an essential component in healthy new body tissues—like hair, skin, and nails!

Inositol helps the cell communication.

And then there is Coconut Oil. This oil is used to hydrate the scalp and unlike other oils it’s not making your hair look greasy

All this vitamins and ingredients can be found in all the food we’re almost consuming every day (well at least we should try consuming them). But since we’re not always capable of consuming them or our body lacks some of them the combination they’re coming in should help you getting long, pretty hair.

Does it work?

There are sources that swear by this electric blue hair vitamins. And the company itself makes a huge fuss about them. They are so easy to merchandise, since they are cute, have a popping color and are tasty. The idea behind it is of course amazing and there are celebrities and social media influencers that are supporting them. But there are also the voices which calling sugarbearhair out to be a scam and not working. To be honest,  I do not expect wonders, while taking these. I believe they contain the stuff they claim to contain, but the sugar level is throwing me off. I believe you pay extra for the cute look and the cute color and the taste and there are hair vitamins out there, doing the same, which tend to be less pricey. But to be fair, I’m going to wait till the 30 days are over to decide if I’m noticing any difference in my hair and do decide if I’m going to provide them again, so I keep you updated.

The POREfessional

15181467_1134726646611115_918094753477840950_n

Benefit Cosmetics really changed my makeup-game and I quickly fell in love with this makeup brand. I life and breathe for the „Hola Bronzer“ and the „Roller Lash“ – I use them on a daily basis and was never disappointed. And as I saw everyone talking about the Porefessional and how it works magic I had to try it. I just had to!

The thing with primers is, that I do not really like them that much. I don’t like the consistency and the feeling and finish the most of them leave on my skin. But I definitely need them, because I have a bad skin. I break out very quickly, if using the wrong products and am having a very sensitive, dry skin with some big ass pores. So yeah, a product which minimizes my pores comes in quiet handy and is necessary.

I’ve heard some mixed reviews about this primer. Some really swore it made their pores disappear and some said that this primer is so overrated and does nothing at all. But makeup products are tricky. I personally think you have to try the things for yourself, because everyone is different and for some people the most hyped things just don’t work and others do. So clearly I got one.

I found this small tube to be quiet expensive – I paid 34 € for 22 ml (0.75 oz). The packaging is cute, there’s no doubt. Almost all the Benefit products come in a retro packaging and so those this. I loved the idea that it was packed and advertised like some kind of superhero. The primer itself is nude and has a pasty consistency. There are a lot of primers out there with a milky consistency, but this one is just like a paste. Therefore I find it harder to spread over your face. You have to tap it on your skin with your fingers, which I do not really like. I wished it was easier to apply, because the whole tapping things costs me so much time. The nude tone of the primer melts with your skin, so you can’t see it after applying. But if you did not tap it in properly and you’re swiping across your face the leftovers of this primer crumble and you have shreds of primer across your face and then you have to remove them first before applying anything else. Definitely a downside. After using the primer you can put on your makeup as usual.

So I tried this primer a couple of times and I have to admit, I do not like it that much. It does minimize my pores a tiny bit, but I expected more. My skin isn’t softer of smoother and my makeup didn’t last longer with the primer. I tested it on well hydrated skin, on different occasions but result was always the same. Maybe if your skin isn’t as problematic as mine the results are more pleasing. But I wouldn’t purchase it again. I’m going to use it up, because it would be a pity to just throw it away, but this won’t be my number one go to primer. I love Benefit, I really do, but this product just didn’t work for me in a way a high end product should work for me.

Blend or Brush?

Remember the 90’s, when you applied most of your makeup with your fingers and sometimes with the spongy thing your eyeshadow pallets provided you? I know you do, cause I clearly remember it, like it was yesterday. There were not that many options in applying makeup… my freaking fingers were my beauty blender and brush, all in once. And it came so pricey… I mean hello? You were born with your supplies. But thank god, that times are over and makeup world provides us with so many options to look flawless every day.

And today I want to introduce you to my go to products, when it comes to put on my face:15170811_1133703583380088_3429064999312975702_n-2

Here we have my Zoeva 125 Strippling Brush (14,50 €) and my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (around 6 €). Okay, my beauty blender has seen better days, I know. I need to get a new one 😀

I first tried the Zoeva Brush for applying my foundation and it does a very good job in spreading it over the face. I feel like its picking up a lot of product, and that I need slightly more, when using the brush over the blender and you really have to tap, instead of brushing to provide the brush streaks across your face. But it gives a nice finish and was my go to for a long time.

But then… Oh my god, I discovered the holy grail of applying makeup. I did not purchased the original Beauty Blender because it was to pricey in my opinion. I didn’t want to spend 20 €, so I tried some of the drugstore products and the once I could get a grip on in my local drug store disappointed me to be honest. They soaked the foundation in and left me with a patchy finish. And then I ran across these Real Techniques one and I was skeptical, because they aren’t that expensive and I never heard of them before, but I thought I give it a try. I mean, what the hell right? 6 € isn’t that much to spend on it. And really for this price point I must admit, it is the bomb! I love the finish it gives me, they are easy to clean and do what they are supposed to. And I like the shape. The flat end is perfect for spreading the foundation and the small tip end is perfect for under your eyes. They are perfect for baking as well, so I really recommend these. I do not have the comparison with the original Beauty Blender and I am planing to get myself one, just to get a clue if it’s worth the hype and because I really am curious if there is a difference to the Real Techniques one.

Overall I like both ways to apply makeup, but I am more drawn to use the beauty blender, because the finish is nicer in my opinion and it’s much more versatile.
